Protecting our Freedoms?

Sun Jun 17, 2007 at 04:18:55 PM PDT

You will find no news in this diary, no quotes from politicians or media figures, no handicapping of presidential or congressional races.
This diary is just my feelings on an issue, and a solicitation of whether other Kossacks feel the same.
We are now well into the patriotic holiday season - Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Flag Day and countless appeals to our love of country in county fairs from sea to shining sea.
In my job as a newspaper reporter (shh.. don't tell anyone, but I'm not completely, 100 percent non-biased,) I have covered parades and stirring speeches for the past several summers. I have heard, over and over, the refrain that our troops are "protecting our rights and freedoms."
That is sometimes true, but not always.
