Giant, Two-Ton Salmon Rolls into Arizona

Stops in Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff Are Part of Five-State Summer Tour
to Raise Awareness for Endangered Wild Salmon and Steelhead in Pacific
Northwest

SEATTLE, July 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Extinction Stops Here," a
5- state public outreach tour to raise awareness for endangered wild salmon
and steelhead in the Pacific Northwest, rolls into Arizona this weekend,
with stops in Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff and a 25-foot-long, two-ton
salmon in tow.
Organized by Save Our Wild Salmon, a coalition of environmental groups,
fishermen and other salmon advocates, the road show is touring Oregon,
Washington, California, Arizona and Nevada this summer to raise visibility
for the plight of endangered salmon and steelhead in the Columbia and Snake
Rivers, and build support for removing the four lower Snake River dams in
Washington State.
The star of the show is Fin, a traffic-stopping, two-ton, 25-foot-long,
hand-crafted King Salmon that has been making appearances at fairs,
festivals, farmer's markets, zoos, aquariums, marinas and various
waterfront locales. Children can climb inside and explore hands-on exhibits
about salmon, their lifecycle and critical watershed habitat, while adults
can learn about what it will take to recover endangered Northwest salmon to
healthy, abundant and sustainable populations and restore declining West
Coast fisheries.
Fin will make her initial Phoenix appearance on Sunday, July 15 from
1-5 pm outside Chase Field as the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the San
Diego Padres.
The road show moves to Tucson on Monday, July 16, with stops at Dry
Creek Outfitters (5420 East Broadway Blvd.) in the morning, and Tucson
Children's Museum in the evening from 4:30 -- 8:00 pm.
It returns to the Phoenix area on Tuesday, July 17, with an appearance
at the Arizona Science Center from 10 am -- 12 noon, completing the day at
Bass Pro Shop superstore in Mesa (1133 North Dobson).
On Wednesday July 18, Fin will tour Flagstaff before continuing north
into Nevada.

Trailfire Trail - Arizona

Hello, yesterday I visited the Pima County Fair in Tucson. Boy, is this a well run fair. The fair was in its 10th day of operation, but you'd never know it from the attendance and activities going on. Some of my favorite things were the Giant Aquarium (one of the world's largest raveling aquariums with free fishing lessons for kids under 12 - Have Trunk Will Travel, Asian Elephant Exhibit, Sea Lion Splash (if you can imagine Sea Lions in the desert no less) - Mopapa Acrobats (who really really moved despite the heat). Super Science Exhibit (a real learning experience for kids and adults) The Budweiser Clydesdales and last but certainly not least the Freak Show!! featuring John Shaw and George the Giant performing among other things: Bed of Nails, Fire Breathing (fascinating), Sword Swallowing (yes, folks the sword was real), Bug EAting, Conortions, Escape acts and more...
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay to see what was on the main stage but I bet it was great. They had of course, the usual cows, pigs, goats and sheep - which included the annual action.
This fairboard really rocks - and so does this fair,,, I give it an A PLUS. If you ever get a chance to go. I guarantee a great time for any age. Well, except for the heat - except this is Arizona you know.

Hogs, Dogs and Flying Bobs Invade The Verde Valley !

The pigs are revving up. The dogs are hitching up their stagecoach. The carnival is moving in. What could it all mean? Only one thing….The Verde Valley Fair is almost here! That’s right, it’s fair time. The 41st Annual Verde Valley Fair will kick off Wednesday, May 2nd and run through Sunday, May 6th. The family event will take place at the fairgrounds in Cottonwood , Arizona.

“People look forward to this event all year. We are thrilled to be able to bring news things, some old favorites and of course a few surprises too,” says Linda Harrison, Fair Manager. Whether you like the thrill of carnival rides, the chill of frozen drinks, the spills of the bull riders or the frills of the exhibits, the Verde Valley Fair has something for everyone.
